The Child’s Prayer

The Child,
Who art on Disney,
Baby Yoda be thy name;
Thy Funko come;
Thy story not yet done,
on The Mandalorian.

Give us this day more viral memes
and forgive us our lack of merchandise
as we forgive those not craving your merchandise.

And give us not only more cute GIFs,
but deliver us expensive items with your likeness
preferably in two-days courtesy of Amazon Prime.

For thine is the adorably big-eyed
holding a cup of soup

for ever and ever.

May the Force
be with
You.

  1. So…its hard to tell if you love Baby Yoda or hate that the character has become so famous/memeable/merchandizable! Plus, you wrote this that day after I sent Michael four Baby Yoda gifs on a Twitter post of his, so I am as guilty as the next over my excessive love for the little guy.

    1. I figured I would have a bit of fun with the Baby Yoda craze sweeping the internet. I honestly do not care one-way or the other if people love or hate Baby Yoda. Personally, I really like The Child, but not because it is adorable (it clearly is!). Rather, I like it for the way it helps to center the moral compass of the shows title character. He is clearly moved to do something profoundly dangerous, and which goes against his profession, in-order to safe guard The Child from harm. I find that fundamentally inspiring. But, that said, I do think people are missing that point. There is a lesson to be learned from the inclusion of The Child in the show, a lesson that should point us towards caring for “The Child” in our own lives. It acceptable and welcome to unite behind a character in a show, but we must also unite behind what that character represents beyond mass media and consumerism.

      At some point, I will post a longer reflection on The Child with these thoughts. But MY OWN child keeps me from sitting and writing as much as I would like 😉

      1. I always look forward to your deeper thoughts on the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian certainly had a Lone Wolf and Cub vibe and I am anxious to how future seasons will develop.

      1. Yeah, the Mando does say “him” at one point but I am just playing that off as the Mando not really checking or really understanding the anatomy of the species. Plus, he usually refers to the child as “it” so I think there’s a lot of room for interpretation.
